Three-Day Training on Gender Data Management Concludes at KP Judicial Academy (17-19 June, 2025)

A three-day Capacity Building Training on Gender Data Management for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Justice Sector Institutions concluded on June 19, 2025, at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA), Peshawar. Organized by UN Women with financial support from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the training was held under the broader project titled "Improving Gender Parity for Strengthening Gender-Responsive Justice in Pakistan."

The event brought together 26 participants from various justice sector departments, including the Judiciary, Home Department, Police, Prosecution, Prisons, Reclamation and Probation, and Social Welfare Department. The training aimed to build institutional capacity in identifying and analyzing gender data gaps, developing responsive data collection plans, conducting data ethics and safety audits, creating gender-responsive budgeting and monitoring frameworks, and drafting implementation strategies for meaningful reform.

The inaugural session was chaired by Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director General KPJA, who welcomed participants and underlined the importance of gender-informed justice reforms. A representative from UN Women shared the objectives of the project and its linkage with ongoing institutional initiatives to promote gender equity.

Day 1 laid the conceptual foundation with sessions on gender concepts and terminology, the importance of gender-disaggregated data, and identification of data gaps across key sectors such as health, education, economy, politics, and security. Interactive discussions explored the role of data in combating gender-based violence and supporting policy reforms.

Day 2 featured technical presentations by UN Women on planning, collecting, and analyzing gender data through both quantitative and qualitative methods. Group activities enabled participants to practice applying data to policy analysis and institutional planning. The day concluded with practical exercises demonstrating the impact of gender data on justice delivery and system accountability.

Day 3 opened with a review of earlier sessions and focused on understanding ethical frameworks and identifying gender bias in data practices. Participants engaged in a lively open floor discussion on the use of gender-disaggregated data for institutional reform. The final session involved a workshop analysis, presentation of group action plans, and feedback sharing.

The training concluded with a formal ceremony chaired by Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, who appreciated the participants' commitment and insights. Certificates were awarded, and a group photo marked the successful culmination of this important initiative.

This training marks a significant step in enhancing the capacity of justice sector institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to collect, analyze, and use gender data for promoting equity, accountability, and improved access to justice for all.
