A week-long professional development course for young lawyers of Merged Districts (MDs) concluded at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA), on Monday, June 21, 2025. The training, aimed to equip 30 young lawyers from various merged districts with the required legal knowledge and skills.
The concluding ceremony was graced by Mr. Justice Ijaz Anwar, Hon’ble the Senior Puisne Judge, Peshawar High Court/ Vice-Chairman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy, as the chief guest. Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director General, KPJA, Mr. Dost Muhammad Khan, Senior Director Administration, Mr. Zia Ur Rahman, Dean Faculty, Dr. Qazi Attaullah, Senior Director Research & Publication, and other Directors and officers of KPJA attended the ceremony.
Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ijaz Anwar, in his speech, underscored the importance of continuous learning and skills development for legal professionals. He emphasized on the need of updated legal knowledge for young lawyers of Merged Districts and to provide effective and efficient legal services to the public. While elaborating the fundamental principles of legal practice, Hon’ble the Senior Puisne Judge said that proper courtroom behavior, adherence to court decorum, and the ability to protect client interests without compromising on duty to the court, should be the highest principles priorities for a legal practice.
Mr. Justice Ijaz Anwar further highlighted that people in the merged districts have remained deprived of the fundamental right to justice, and the country's judicial system is new therein, with citizens slowly becoming accustomed to it. Therefore, a heavy responsibility falls on lawyers to end the people's deprivations. He advised young lawyers never to abandon the path of hard work and to avoid accepting unnecessary cases, as this increases the burden of litigation on the courts. He added that the cases in the merged districts are manageable
He expressed hope that the training program would increase knowledge of the participants and will also improve their professional skills, conduct, and attitude.
Earlier, in his key note, the Director General, KPJA emphasized on the significance of the training for enhancing the professional capabilities, required skills, knowledge, and experiences of the young lawyers. He highlighted the crucial role of lawyers in upholding justice and expressed optimism that the training would contribute to their professional growth and development.
Class Representative, Mr. Hidayatullah Advocate thanked the Academy for designing diverse training program that helped them in refining their professional capabilities. He hoped that this kind of training program will also be conducted in future for young lawyers of newly merged districts.
At the end, certificates were conferred on the participants.
